I think one of the biggest illusions we live with is that peace is waiting for us somewhere in the future.

I painted Serenity during a moment when something shifted in me. I began to realise that perhaps I didn’t need my circumstances to change in order to feel at peace. Perhaps I’d been searching outside myself for something that could only begin within.

“Paradise isn’t a place you arrive at. It’s a state of being you discover when you no longer need the world to become something else.”

This painting holds that realisation for me. It’s a reminder to stop postponing peace until some imagined future, and to find a way to feel at home within yourself, right here, in the life you’re living.

I hope that whoever brings Serenity into their home finds something personal in it, too. Perhaps a little stillness in a chaotic day. A reminder of what really matters. Or simply a feeling they can’t quite put into words, but know they want to return to.
